It is a real treat for me to be in a live class.  And this one was a great mix of tabata style intervals and arm segments... 3 arm segments.  

I was feeling pretty good because of yesterday's endurance ride.  So, I decided to skip the arm segments and go for a Personal Record (PR).  PR's are a bit about strategy for me.  My previous highest score was a 405.  I knew that I needed to get an average wattage of around 165 to bump it up to the next PR-level, which for me would be around 450.  Here's a great guide from the Fast Times at Peloton High Facebook group which outlines the average wattages you need to target for each Output Score.  

Intervals for me are perfect to try to PR.  I basically shoot for an average wattage that I can maintain, something like 145 for me, without dying.  Then, every interval I gun it. The average wattage goes up and then I have to maintain that during the "off" times.  I climbed this way from 145 to 164... coming in just one point short of my PR.  I'll take it. 

It should be noted that to PR you often have to warm-up before the ride starts... for me I did a five minute CLIMB intro with Cody.  Then, you have to sometimes ignore some of the lower wattage parts of the class like the cool-down.  For me, I was gasping to try to get to 450 while Hannah was congratulating everyone.  I did the cool-down on my own.
