Day Two: Steve Little 45 Endurance 6.12.17
So I knew this was going to be a bit of a slog... I went to bed late--for the last two nights. I hit snooze, but made myself get up. I hadn't taken a Steve Little ride since he left Peloton and I had plans with the 5:15 tribe to meet up on the bike and take one of his classes on demand. The 5:15 tribe is a Facebook group that agrees to meet on the bike at 5:15AM for a pre-recorded ride. This was born out of necessity because even at NYC time, the studio doesn't hold live classes before 6AM. This was my main motivation for getting the bike even though I live in Gotham--why not just go to the studio? I'm a teacher, on stage at 7:45AM to an avid audience of 28. While you can't throw a quarter in a busker's hat without hitting a fitness studio, almost all classes start at 6AM when I'm already mascara-ed up!
When I get on the bike with the Facebook group 5:15 tribe, we have a predetermined ride from the on-demand collection that we all agree to get on. I've befriended many of the members and when I sort my list by riders I follow, it's like a little leaderboard of just our tribe. We swap little anecdotes about the ride after class. It's my little community among the big world of country-wide riders.
Back to the class: Steve Little's has an interesting teacher-persona. Part disciplinarian, part bro... overall he strikes me as nice, but he isn't much for inspirational moments. There's a lot of "should" in his class... you should know how much time we have left in this interval... Really Steve? It is 5AM, I haven't even had coffee yet, bro. Steve also does a bit of bad mouthing people who go hard for high numbers all of the time. He brought to the Peloton community the importance of heart rate training and not always doing high intensity classes all of the time. I believe in the science of this, but dang brother, can I just get a little glitter... I know, I know, it isn't your thing, Little. I hope he finds lots of success in his next adventure (which is apparently in his wife's company/ap Blinked).
